Tokamachi History & Art Experience Route (1-day Route)
This "route will give you a good grasp of Tokamachi's History & Art Route. Starting with the Hoshitomori no Uta Art Gallery, you can see sculpture by local Fujimaki Hidemasa, and others. At Kinare, and in the Kimono History House, you can feel Tokamachi's contribution to Japanese culture. We recommend lunch and shopping at Cross 10, which is also in Michi no Eki. In the afternoon, you can see flame-shaped pottery in the Tokamachi Museum, which are National Treasures, and learn about the ancient history of Tokamachi. Then, having learned about Jomon Era earthenware, you can experience making ceramics at the Tsumariyaki Ceramics Center. (Last entry pm).
Matsudai & Matsunoyama Blessings of Nature Route (1-day Route)
The Matsudai & Matsunoyama Blessings of Nature Route will refresh you body and soul. From Echigoyuzawa, via National Road 353, please travel to Matsunoyama. Immersing yourself among the limber beeches of the Bijinbayashi (Beautiful People Wood), then seeing the splendid view of the Hoshitouge no Tanada, deeply refreshes the mind. No Butai and Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science were both constructed for the Triennial to display the nature and culture of the local area. At the end of your journey, take a stroll down Matsunoyama Spa Street, and refresh your body in the Matsunoyama Spa, one of the three biggest mineral spas in Japan.
Nakasato Grand Nature & Art Route (1-day Route)
Please enjoy the Nakasato Grand Nature & Art Route. From Echigoyuzawa, via National Road 353, please travel to Tokamachi City. The Kiyotsukyou Canyon is one of the three biggest in Japan, and its stark beauty is enhanced by the crystal waters of the Kiyotsu River flowing through it. Then it's off to Nanatsugama, to see the seven waterfall basins scattered along the mountain torrents of the Naeba mountain chain. Along the way, you can see art representing the Nakasato area, such as 'The Longest River', and 'Potemkin', etc. Finally, please enjoy Mion Nakasato spa, and shopping in Rapinu Yukikaidou (Snow Road).
Daichi Art South Circular Route (1-day Route)
This is a route encompassing the art in Tokamachi, Matsudai, Matsunoyama and Nakasato. The route includes the Matsudai No Butai, Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science, Potemkin works of art, as well as smaller works, and scenic views of the Hoshitouge no Tanada. Works of art using empty houses also create a big impression. You can eat dishes made from local produce at No Butai. (In winter, most of these works of art cannot be enjoyed due to the heavy snow)
Daichi Art North Circular Route (1-day Route)
This is a route encompassing the art in Tokamachi, Kawanishi, and Matsudai. There are many works of art in the areas around Nakago Green Park, which includes the House of Light, and Matsudai Yukiguni Noukou Bunkamura Center. You can eat delicious food made by local mothers in Ubusuna no Ie. (In winter, many of these works of art cannot be enjoyed due to the heavy snow)
Daichi Art Matsudai & Matsunoyama Route (1-day Route)
This is a route encompassing the art in Matsudai and Matsunoyama. As well as Kyororo, and No Butai Stage, this route also includes works such as 'Shedding House', 'Dream House', and 'The Last Class', all of which use empty houses or closed schools. You can't miss the mountain village views or the beautiful beeches of Bijinbayashi. (In winter, most of these works of art cannot be enjoyed due to the heavy snow)
Daichi Art Tsunan Town Route (1-day Route)
This is a route encompassing the permanent works of art to be found in Tsunan Town. These include the Dragon Museum of Contemporary Art, curated by Cai Guo-Qiang, who oversaw the Beijing Olympic fireworks, and which contains a kiln brought to Japan from Fujian Province in China, and Kamoshika Family (Antelope Family), by Georgi Tchapkanov, a sculpture made from scraps of farming tools and implements. These works of art can be viewed on foot in and around Mountain Park Tsunan.
Daichi Grand Staged Art Route (1-day Route)
This is a route that takes in the staged art work events. These staged works of arts are open and can be viewed throughout the year. Many smaller works of art are to be found around the stages, so please enjoy them as well. (Matsudai No Butai is closed Mondays. Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science is closed Tuesdays, and Echigo-Tsumari Kouryukan (Echigo-Tsumari Exchange Center) is closed Wednesdays.)
