The Echigo-Tsumari region of Niigata Prefecture (Tokamachi City & Tsunan Town) holds a Triennial Art Festival. It is the largest art festival of its kind in the world, and emphasizes the fusion and harmony of art and nature in the area.
The region itself has a long history, stretching back to Jomon Era Japan, which was characterized by the construction of splendid terraced rice fields and unusual flame-shaped earthenware, which have been designated as National Treasures. The long agricultural traditions of the area are also expressed in the regional specialties, including the renowned Koshihikari rice and the Hegisoba style of serving Soba Noodles.
Information about transportation, accommodation, restaurants, spas, and shops where art, regional produce, and souvenirs full of the charm of the area can be bought can all be found on this site.
